Chapter 5
Sage and Cutter looked up startled by the shadow. What they saw surprised them even more. It was a green dragons belly. The dragon landed down in front of them and roared out. Sage and Cutter backed up from the roaring dragon. The dragon looked as if it was about to torch them when Sage’s dragon popped out in front of them and with its pip-squeak roar roared at the giant dragon. It continued in a series of pip-squeaks until the dragon looking very confused flew off back towards the caves. Sage’s dragon came up and nuzzled Sage until it hurt and he had to take the dragon and put it down.
“Down, Lizzie, down.” Sage said in a loving voice as he put the dragon down on the ground.
“So that’s what you are going to name it? Lizzie. Are you sure it’s even a girl?” asked Cutter.
“Yeah the witchy lady said so. Must have been using magic or something. Good girl Lizzie.” Sage said heading towards the river.
Sage leaned over towards the river to drink. “AWWWWAAAAK!!!” Sage yelled out. Pulling up his head you could see that his head was soaked. “That river is to fast. How are we going to cross?”
“Don’t know maybe there is a bridge down a little,” Replied Cutter. They began to walk down the side of the river. After about a mile they came to a big sturdy looking bridge. They were walking to it when they stopped to watch what was happening at the bridge.
In front of the bridge was a big troll. They watched as the troll flipped the man in front of him into the river. “We have to help him,” said Sage. He quickly put the most part of his body into the small backpack. He came back up holding a rope way too big for the small backpack. Cutter stared at Sage. “Don’t look at me like that hold onto the rope for me I’m going in.” And with that said Sage finished the last not around his waste and ran into the river. Looking around under water Sage saw the man flapping around. Sage began to swim towards the man until finally he could grab him under the arm pits. Quickly Sage pushed off the bottom of the river to the top where he breathed in fresh air. Pulling up the man next to him he began to swim to the side of the river. With the help of Cutter he made it over to the edge of the river. Pulling the man up on the bank Sage let Cutter push him aside and do something on the man. The man leaned up coughing up river water and then breathed in a big gust of air. “Thank you very much. I am in your gratitude.
“You’re welcome,” Sage and Cutter chorused. Helping the man to his feet he said “My name is Richard. Please come to my house. You look tired and hungry.” He was right Sage and Cutter were hungry. They let Richard take them to his house in the middle of a small quiet city.
“So why were you trying to cross the bridge?” asked Sage. As Richards wife set a small portion of vegetables.
“I was trying to get to the other cities to get food there is such a small potion left here.”
“Why not go to the city a mile back.”
“I would do that but you never know who to trust there they might put poison in your food for fun.”
“Oh”
“And that stupid troll was in the way this time. I don’t know how we will get food now.”
“I think I have an idea. We could build a pen to raise animals. Then we could help you get across the bridge. We need to go that way anyway.” Sage said.
“Thank you very much that would be so much help.” Richard said. Cutter pulled Sage over. “We are here to kill those dragon things not to fix peoples problems.”
“Hey we can do some good on the way.” Sage replied.
Richard butted in “I overheard that you guys are looking for the bone dragons. I know where they live and could show you the way. Plus a bonus would be as I see you are a sorcerer and I can teach you for real instead of directions.” And with that Richard twisted his hand and said something inaudible. A piece of paper came flouting out of the bag and burst into flames. “So I will be going with you if you help us.”
“Here Lizzie put the wood down here.” Lizzie had grown to almost her full size in the two weeks they had worked on the giant pen. “Good job Lizzie now we’re all done.”
Turning toward Richard he asked “Ready to go?” They had packed there bags that morning.
“Yeah I just have to get one thing from my house. You can come with me.” Sage and Cutter followed Richard to his house.
Richard, Sage, and Cutter rounded the corner and saw that Richard house was on fire with all the stuff in it. Sage glanced up and saw that there was a bone dragon. It also looked like there was a shiny piece of metal flying towards it. “Oh no.” Richard dropped to his knees. “They have found it.”
“Found what?” Cutter asked
“They have found my piece of Arinian.
“What is an Aridy-whatyoumacallit?
Richard sighed “It’s is a piece of a ring. That when the wearer wears it when he or she makes contact with skin they will control the person completely. There are three parts. From what you told me I think that they found a piece in your house to.
They were at the bridge looking at the giant troll. “Why can’t we fly over?”
“He would hit us with his giant club.” Richard answered as they walked up to the troll.
The troll boomed out “Do you wish to pass?”
“Yes we do wish to pass.”
“You were not to successful last time.” The troll laughed a laugh that sounded like roaring dragons.
“Will you let us all pass if we answer correctly?”
“Yes I will let all four of you pass through.”
“So then what is you riddle?
What runs but has no legs
What waves but has no hand
What has a mouth but can not speak
What am I?
“Wow this is pretty hard.” Sage said thinking once again of how cold the river was.
“Not really” Cutter said who was pretty good at riddles. “What runs but has no legs is a river currents running. What waves but has no hand is the waves that go through a fast moving river and then what has a mouth but can not speak is the delta of the river.
So the answer is a river.” And with that Cutter shouted out “a river.”
The troll looked confused at first. Then after what seemed like ages the troll answered “Yes that is correct. You may pass.”

Chapter 4
When I woke up I looked to the other side of the fire and saw Sage curled up with his dragon. I leaned over and woke him up. Then I called my wolf Starfall. He ran up to me almost perfectly black with a white star on his forehead. When Sage was fully awake I said to him “I think we should head down the mountain to the valley for directions… and food.” Sage nodded. Sage’s dragon made a strange gurgling sound and then bit Sage on the tip of his nose like he agreed to get food. When began to pack up are stuff fast because the spiders where really getting smelly. When we were finished we started down the mountain side. On the other side of the mountain we saw a medium sized village that we agreed to go to in the morning. When we woke we heard a lot of huba-bub from the village. We peaked through the trees at first and saw that the place was packed with everything you could imagine. From centaurs to dwarfs. From goblins to elves. All kinds of creatures gathered and talked there. We decided it was safe enough and walked into the village. Right from the start we were the center of attention. Or at least Sage’s dragon was.
“I’ll buy your dragon for a thousand gold pieces.”
“I’ll buy it for two thousand.”
“No no don’t give it to them give it to me I’ll give you five thousand gold pieces fer the dragon.”
“Gee,” Sage muttered to Cutter “They really want my dragon.” Sage and Cutter began to run away from the people they ran into a little hut on the outskirts of the town.
“Hello dearies. Would you like me to tell you your powers?
“Umm… Yeah I guess we would,” I said.
“Okay one at a time.” She grabbed my wrist and dragged me to the back and opened a door to another room. “Sit down in the circle of (cough cough) candles dearie. I looked at the floor and saw a circle of candles already lit. I stepped in and sat down. She took out a incent and lit it breathing in the sent. After a minute she looked up at me (she was still shorter then me when sitting down) “Righto, your powers enable you to control water and ice bending them to your will. Get the other one will you please.” With that she ushered me of to go get Sage.
“Your turn,” I muttered to him. After a minute or two he came out shaking a little and holding a huge deer skin bag of stuff. “What are you a sorcerer?”
“Yeah I am. You?”
“Ummm… I can control water and ice. Okay let’s go.” Sage and I walked around the city a little more hiding his dragon in the deer skin bag. We got some food and I got two black throwing stars that were supposed to kill the living and the dead. Walking around we heard a lot of stuff we heard that Akarage got a new king, Sepas of Kigna got married to his fourth wife, and we heard that the bone dragon were heading north. So we left the big city and entered a small forest. After we got through the forest we heard rushing water and we began to walk forward fast so we could quench our thirst. Just as we saw the river a big shadow loomed over us.
